ADVENTURE OPTIONS

the Adventure

Ultramarine offers the most robust portfolio of off-ship adventure options in the entire polar industry, including some never before offered, such as heli- hiking, alpine kayaking, heli-landing. Other adventure options, some of which are included free, feature Zodiac cruising, the polar plunge and walking/hiking. Some off-ship activities are region specific. For instance, overnight camping is offered in Antarctica while alpine-kayaking is unique to the Greenland Adventure Program.

Zodiac Cruising These polar-sturdy, reinforced rubber skiffs whisk you safely from the ship to the remote shorelines and back, taking you into the shallow waters that the ship can’t reach. Touring by Zodiac while looking out for wildlife is an intimate and relaxing way to explore the icy bays and inlets.

Included in your expedition

Walking/Hiking Hiking in the Arctic differs from hiking in the Antarctic—but both offer guests the opportunity to explore on foot, typically with a guide. Whether it’s the feel of tundra beneath your feet—or a snow-covered landscape, hiking and walking in the polar regions allows you to immerse yourself in the polar region during a shore landing.

Heli-Landing You’ll be transported in small groups on Ultramarine ’s two twin-engine helicopters to landing sites only accessible by air. Expect stunning aerial views from your seat in the helicopter—and yet more incredible polar vistas once you land: glaciers, icebergs, remote landscapes, wildlife and more. *Arctic departures only

Ice Sheet Experience Ascend high above the cascading coastal glaciers by helicopter onto the immense polar plateau of the Greenland Ice Sheet and take in the immensity of this overwhelming landscape. An excursion on one of Ultramarine ’s helicopters means you’ll enjoy a polar view very few others have ever experienced. *Greenland Adventure program only

Polar Plunge As madcap as it looks, willingly jumping into the bone-chilling ocean waters has become a polar rite of passage —and the photo ops are priceless. Dare yourself to take the plunge!

Flightseeing Soaring above the polar regions in a helicopter gives guests a bird’s eye-view of the diverse landscapes—tundra, ice, snow, ocean, icebergs, glaciers. Flightseeing enables travelers to get a sense of the immensity of the polar regions.

Heli-Hiking Helicopters will transfer you to the start of the most scenic hiking routes of Southern Greenland and then pick you up at the end point of the route. Each heli-hiking departure will be tailored to your personal needs and level of interests. *Arctic departures only
