We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of our new, interactive online polar north region discovery and exploration tool.
A Guide to the Arctic allows you to simply click to explore Arctic regions, wildlife, climate, history, geography and fun facts. Clicking on various points within each category and information layer reveals pop-up boxes with fast facts, visuals, videos and more.
Where more information is available, users can take a deep dive into encyclopedia entries, longer videos, articles and other linked resources.
Here, we're exploring locations by choosing the green ship icon from the menu on the right side of the page.
We can explore the polar region and specific locations like Greenland and the Canadian Arctic by moving our cursor around the map. Anywhere more information is available to explore, we'll see the region turn a darker green when our cursor passes over. Clicking on one of these interactive points brings up photos, fast facts, video or other elements to teach us more about the region, like this video of Greenland:
Use the guide to discover the natural habitat and regions of choice for different species of Arctic animals, including birds, on-land and marine animals. In this example, we've decided we want to know where the ringed seal lives across the Arctic region:
Which area of the Arctic would you like to visit and explore? Check out the Voyages map, which shows all of the different areas you can visit with Quark Expeditions. Each icon expands to display a full map of the expedition route, with highlights and a link to more in-depth information.
Guide to the Arctic is HTML5-based and makes use of jQuery. It works in any web browser, allowing you to explore and investigate from any internet-connected device.
